PORTLAND, Ore.—The 13th annual Portland Five Aside Soccer Tournament turned out to be a great event, as well as fruitful for Cavalier men's and women's players participating.
Hosted by Central Catholic High School for the second straight year, this fun and competitive soccer event that also serves as a fundraiser for the Concordia women's soccer team went smoothly under beautiful sunny skies.
In the women's bracket, Team X which features players from the current Cavalier team took home the championship for only the second year in its history, the last title coming in 2003. The men's division was won by the Navy Spider Runners featuring current Cavs Facundo Dipascuale, Jared Brace, Mirza Ramic and Evan Denmark.
“It was another great year, and exciting as well both here and internationally in conjunction with the World Cup," CU women's head coach Grant Landy said. "We took 3 hours off on Saturday to cheer on the US vs. England, and I think that helped energize the players and the tournament. I want to thank all the teams and managers that participated and Central Catholic for hosting us as well.”
