CAMAS, Wash.—With intermittent sunshine on the afternoon of June 14, a return trip to Camas Meadows for the Concordia University Fore the Students Golf Tournament proved once again to make for a successful day of fun, food and competition in support of the Cavaliers.
With a full field on the links and sponsors such as Group Mackenzie, Nike, Sodexo and the Lutheran Church Extension Fund backing the event, more than $50,000 was raised to benefit the student-athletes at Concordia.
“All-around it was an enjoyable day celebrating Concordia Athletics. The support for this year's Fore the Students Golf Tournament was fantastic.” CU Athletic Director Matt English said. “To have a full field and the level of sponsor support that we did is a testament to how much our supporters care about helping student-athletes.”
The foursome comprised of Chris Helmes, Aaron Maunu, Bob Brewer and Jeff Gustafson earned the event trophy by carding a 19-under 53 in the scramble tournament. The group consisting of Creighton Suomi, Scott Wuori, Jason Stenersen and Scott Dani took second placed after posting a 55.
Closet to the Pin awards went to David Rae, Dean Kinnunen and Lindsay Aho while Longest Drive winners included Aho, Creighton Suomi and Melissa Keller. Concordia University President Charles Schlimpert earned the Longest Putt title with a successful swing on Hole No. 18.
“The proceeds from this tournament will directly benefit student-athletes through scholarship and program dollars. In this economic climate, those dollars are extremely significant in helping us maintain the level of excellence we've come to expect at Concordia,” English said. “A huge ‘thank you’ is owed to our many participants and sponsors, particularly Group Mackenzie for once again generously stepping forward as the presenting sponsor.”
