LEWISTON, Idaho—Posting five runs in the second inning, No. 1-ranked Lewis-Clark State throttled Concordia 13-1 in the fourth and final game of a three-day baseball series plated at Harris Field on Saturday.
With the win, LCSC improved to 40-3 this season while Concordia fell to 9-31.
The Warriors scored at least once in the first four innings to claim a 9-0 lead. Notching 17 hits in the game while holding the Cavaliers to just five, Lewis-Clark added a single score in the sixth and three in the eighth before CU finally broke through with a run in the top of the ninth.
The Cavs avoided the shutout with
Tim Reavis drawing a one-out walk and moving to second on a wild pitch.
Tony Flanagan followed with an RBI single to center field for the team’s lone run of the game.
Aside from Flanagan’s hit,
Jon Houts singled through the middle in the first,
Curt Cosby singled to left in the second,
Ryan Kolstad singled to right in the third and
Andrew Reid singled through the middle in the sixth to complete Concordia’s connections.
Dylan Smith took the loss for the Cavs after pitching the first three frames.
Zac Manor followed with three innings of work before
Brett Ferguson took the mound for the final two stanzas. Tyler Knigge earned the win with six shutout innings as the team’s starter. Knigge struck out eight while allowing four hits.
Concordia returns to action on May 30 when it hosts Corban College in Newberg, Ore. Opening pitch is set for 1 p.m. at George Fox University.
