WILDER, Idaho—Firing his third straight 1-under 71, Concordia’s
Jed Dalton captured medalist honors en route to leading the Cavaliers to a team title at the College of Idaho Invitational held at River Bend Golf Course on Tuesday.
Concordia (296-290-294—880) used three under 300 rounds for a 13-stroke win over the host Coyotes from The College of Idaho (298-295-800—893). The Yotes held of Northwest Nazarene (301-302-308—911) for second place while Northwest Christian (299-308-324—931) finished in fourth. Starting the day 12 strokes behind NCU, Simpson (307-312-313—932) came within a stroke of tying the Beacons.
Rounding out the team scores were Corban (30-7-319-320—946) in sixth, Warner Pacific (319-318-319—955) in seventh and Idaho (340-362-343—1,045) in ninth. A second team from NNU placed eighth with a three-round total of 1,025.
A third 71 from Dalton (71-71-71—213) moved the freshman from second to first in the final tally, while first-day leader
Will Snow (69-72-76—217) fell to third place. C of I’s Tyler Thurston (70-72-73—215) split the cavalier duo in second place, two strokes behind Dalton and two ahead of Snow.
After tying for the position through two rounds, Simpson’s Mitch Card (71-73-75—219) maintained fourth place with a 75 in the final go-around as Northwest Christian’s Brent McKee (72-72-78—222) slipped to fifth with a 78 in the finale.
Casey Dyck (72-75-77—224) came in sixth as C of I’s second individual, one stroke of Corban’s Joey Duey (73-73-79—225), who led the Warriors with a seventh-place finish.
NCU’s Justin Ahrens (75-71-80—226), Concordia’s
Jonny Miller (76-73-77—226) and Northwest Nazarene’s Aaron VendeHey (75-78-73—226) tied for eighth place to round out the top 10.
Finishing in a tie for 15th place,
Blake Blakey (82-74-74—230) moved up four spots in the final round with his second consecutive 2-over 74 as Concordia’s fourth and final scorer. Also competing for the Cavs,
Todd Oakes (80-81-73—234) finished strong with a 73 to conclude the tournament in 19th place, a nine-place improvement from the start of the day.
Concordia will next compete at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships which will be held April 19-20 at Diamond Woods Golf Course in Monroe, Ore.
