PORTLAND, Ore. — After picking up All-America honors at the NAIA Indoor National Championships last weekend, four Concordia student-athletes were honored as the
Cascade Collegiate Conference Track Athletes of the Week, the league announced today.
Earning the Male and Female Track Athlete of the Week honors were
Eric Burck and
Andria Scheese while
Eric Whalen and
Katherine Tripp were awarded the league’s Field Athletes of the Week.
Burck became Concordia's first ever men’s NAIA indoor national champion with a 14:33.22 in the 5,000 on Saturday. Winning the event by more than five seconds, Burck's time also established a school record by 13 seconds. The time also bettered the 2009 championship mark by more than nine seconds.
Whalen secured All-America honors for the second straight indoor season with a 6th-place result at the NAIA Championships with a toss of 53-10 1/2, nearly matching his school record of 54-0 1/2.
Also competing in the shot, Tripp was measured with a 47-7 1/4 in her last attempt to move up two places to secure a runner-up finish for her fourth NAIA All-America honor of her career.
Scheese picked up a pair of All-American performances with a fourth-place finish in the mile with a time of 5:05.32 and as a member of the school record breaking distance medley relay team which finished in sixth place with a 12:13.34.
