GAME 2 RECAP
PORTLAND, Ore.—Coming back to tie the game in the seventh and again in the 11th, Concordia couldn’t match The College of Idaho in the 12th as the Yotes defeated the Cavs 6-5 in NAIA West Region action Sunday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field.
With the win, C of I improved to 12-5 with a 2-1 record in NAIA West Region play. Concordia fell to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in league play.
With the Yotes up 3-2 in the seventh, Concordia managed to tie the game on a sacrifice fly from
Tommy Whalen. The score remained unchanged until the 11th when C of I’s Jye Lanphere connected on a two-out single to left center to score a pair of Yotes.
The Cavs hit three singles in the bottom half of the tenth and utilized an error to even the game at 5-5, but Lamphere returned with a solo shot over the left-field fence for the go-ahead run.
Concordia’s
Ryan Kolstad reached via an error to start the home half of the 12th and was nearly picked off in the next at bat as
Andrew Reid rocketed a ball to C of I second baseman Ray Santiago, but Kolstad was able to make it back to the bag to avoid the double play.
The new life would prove to be short lived as Yote reliever Bobby Wassman was able to generate a double play to the shortstop to end the game.
Lanphere ended the game with three RBI after going 3-of-6 at the plate. Teammate Diego Robles went 4-for-6 as the team tallied 16 total hits.
The Cavs registered 13 hits with Kolstad,
Calvin Nagy,
Mike Dickman and
Tony Flanagan each collecting a pair of hits.
C of I starter Chad Yeggy lasted six innings before being relieved by Mitchell Dame. Wassman picked up the win by tossing the final two frames where he allowed one hit and two walks.
Josh O’Gorman gave up three runs on 11 hits in 9.0 solid innings of work as the CU starter.
