CLARKSTON, Wash. – The Rocky Mountain men and the Concordia women grabbed the first-round lead after Monday’s opening 18 holes in the Lewis-Clark State College Invitational golf tournament, which is being played at the Clarkston Golf & Country Club.
On the women’s side, Concordia, ranked No 8, shot a 308 for a 20-shot lead over LCSC, which is ranked No. 23. Victoria, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, is third at 338, two shots ahead of No. 15-ranked Rocky Mountain College.
All four of Concordia’s scorers finished inside the top five on the leaderboard.
Lindsay Aho and
Kim Lindow tied for the top position with 2-over-par 74s heading into the second and final day while
Holly Speer ended the day at fourth with a 7-over 79 and
Sara Taylor shot a 9-over 81 to conclude the first 18 holes in a two-way tie for fifth.
Lewis-Clark State’s Cortney Shrout broke up the string of Cavs with a 5-over 77 to finish in third place at the midway point of the six-team tournament.
The Cavalier men entered the clubhouse in fifth place out of 11 squads with a 21-over 309.
Will Snow paced CU with a 3-over 75 to tie for eighth while
Jed Dalton and
Jonny Miller finished one and two strokes back of Snow, respectively. Dalton fired a 4-ver 76 to tie for 21st place and Miller a 5-over 77 to tie for 21st.
Rocky Mountain, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA, had an even-par team score of 288 to lead the field by seven strokes over Victoria which is ranked No. 20. Victoria was followed by Spokane Community College at 304 and host LCSC at 305.
Rocky Mountain’s DJ Kovach fired the best round of the day with a 4-under-par 68 on the 6,680-yard course. Teammate Connor Rakowski was the only other player to break par at 70.
Monday’s opening round was delayed about an hour because of a light overnight frost.
