BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore.—Batting 11 en route to scoring eight runs in the second inning, Lewis-Clark State defeated Concordia 9-0 in the three-game series finale between the two clubs at Joe Etzel Field on Sunday.
With the win, LC State improved to 17-1 with its only loss to Concordia earlier in the season. The Cavaliers dropped to 3-12 on the year.
After giving up consecutive hits in the second, CU starter
Josh O’Gorman managed to get the next two batters out via a strikeout and a grounder to third, but back-to-back hit batters led to the game’s first run and a follow-up error at third enabled the Warriors to reload the bases. From there, LCSC strung together four straight hits, including a two-run homer by Brian Gaylord to give the Warriors an 8-0 lead.
LC State added a single run in the fourth for its final tally while starter Tyler Knigge shut out the Cavs for five innings of work. Knigge was followed by Seth Haehl, Jorge Sanchez and Zach Clanton to complete the shutout.
The Warriors outhit the Cavs 7-4 with Gaylord leading the way with a 3-for-5 performance. The Cavs put a runner in scoring position in just two innings with
Tim Reavis reaching third after drawing a walk in the second and
Tyler Anderson making it to second in the eighth following a two-out single by
Mike Dickman.
Concordia returns to action on March 20 when it hosts British Columbia for a four-game two-day series at Joe Etzel Field.
