BOX SCORE

CLACKAMAS, Ore.—With the top three batters going 5-for-10, Concordia upended British Columbia 6-1 in non-conference softball action held at Hood View Park on Friday.

The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader at Delta Park in Portland, but the twinbill was shifted to the turf facility at Hood View Park. The nightcap was called due to constant rain in the bottom of the third inning.

With the win, Concordia improved to 9-1 on the season while UBC, in its inaugural season as a varsity sport, fell to 3-9 on the year. The Cavaliers are set to host Simon Fraser on Sunday at Delta Park. Opening pitch is slated for 11 a.m.

Concordia scored in four of the first five innings with single runs in the first, second and fourth for the wire-to-wire win.

A leadoff bunt single by Kayla Vickaryous turned into the opening run of the game via an RBI walk by teammate Tina Garcia. A leadoff walk by Laura Thorp ended in the second run for the Cavaliers by way of an RBI double off the bat Mallory Callahan. In the bottom of the fourth, Becca Gawlista picked up one of her three hits with a single to left field to drive in Ali Paz as all three of the CU runs occurred with two outs on the board.

UBC managed to break through in the fifth to cut it to a two-run game. After a leadoff strikeout, Chelsey Rodgers connected on a shot through the middle. Rodgers was followed by singles from Jessica Barclay and Tanya McLean to load the bases where Rodgers would eventually score on a wild pitch.

Responding in the bottom of the fifth, Concordia tallied three hits and a walk to plate three more to break the game open. Courtney Wooden drew a walk as the first batter of the inning. Following back-to-back outs in the infield, the Cavs strung together three straight hits, including an RBI single to center by Callahan and a two-run double to right-center field by Paz.

Concordia picked up 10 hits while limiting the Thunderbirds to four. Vickaryous and Callahan each went 2-for-4 with Vickaryous scoring two runs and Callahan registering a pair of RBI. All four UBC hits were singles and came from four different players.
