Mountaineers Stifle Cavs in Second Half in 57-37 Win

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Limiting Concordia to just 17 second-half points, Eastern Oregon defeated the Cavaliers 57-37 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Saturday night. 

With the win, the Mountaineers (14-7, 9-3 CCC) remain in the conference race with the victory. Concordia fell to 10-12 overall and 4-8 in league action. The Cavaliers return to action on Feb. 5 when it hosts Corban College. 

Eastern led by as many as eight points in the first half, and 18 in the second half. Concordia never had the lead in the game. Kyle Miller led EOU with 15 points on 6 for 6 shooting from the field. Tana Stickney recorded her fifth career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. 

The Cavaliers were led by 14 points from Danielle Clauson on 7 for 17 shooting from the field. Grace Cappleman grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Megan Padilla threw a team-high four assists. CU has lost four consecutive games. 

EOU held Concordia to 28 percent shooting from the field and 17 percent from behind the perimeter. The Mountaineers were 42 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the arc. Eastern outrebounded CU, 42-30.

“We were hurt by inconsistent play,” CU head coach Aaron Christian said. “We have to find a way to keep battling and keep swinging as we have to get some momentum going into the final weeks of the season.”
